Amethyst is a highly esteemed stone known for its stunning beauty and legendary powers to soothe the mind and emotions. In today’s classification, it is known as a semi-precious stone, contrary, to the ancient time wherein it was called as “Gem of Fire”.



Amethyst is a stone that was always associated with February which was the month that the Romans dedicated to Neptune. So, without a doubt, this precious stone is the birthstone for the month of February.

This beautiful stone signifies ecclesiastical dignity as the Bishop's stone and also the stone of St Valentine and faithful love. Although this stone carries the energy of fire, passion, creativity, and spirituality, it also bears the logic of temperance and sobriety.

Formation:
This stone forms as transparent terminated crystals of all sizes in geodes, clusters, and long single terminations as well. These are usually polished into wonderful specimens and talismans.
Amethyst is produced due to the presence of manganese in clear quartz. The purple colouration is varied due to the additional amounts of iron.

Colour:
The stone ranges from pale red-violet to deep violet and also can be transparent or opaque. In addition, it is sometimes layered with white Quartz as Chevron Amethyst, found in combination with Cacoxenite, mixed with Citrine as Ametrine, or in rare cases, “rutilated” with Goethite.
The name Amethyst is derived from the Greek word ametusthos which means “not intoxicated", and comes from an ancient legend.
